The Inter School Regatta stands out as the landmark event in Indian Rowing, as this is the OLDEST School Regatta held in our country since 1973, acting as the foundation for the formation of West Bengal Rowing Association (WBRA), followed by RFI and finally the ARF With the upcoming 49th edition of the regatta, the club aims to further strengthen this remarkable legacy by providing a platform for young rowers to display their skills and unwavering enthusiasm. Today, the School Regatta championship has been recognized by the Rowing Federation of India, the apex body of Rowing in our country.
The flagship Regatta is the single most important vehicle of promoting the sport among the young school going children with the motto “CATCH THEM YOUNG”. Every year students from the schools are invited by the club, trained by expert trainers and made to compete with each other for this prestigious championship. The entire cost of training, providing boats, oars and other necessary facilities to the students is borne by the club, without any financial implications to the students.
Our rowers introduced during school regatta, have also achieved success in both national and international level – Pratik Gupta has won numerous medals and championships at both national and international level. He recently won the trials for the World University Rowing and will be travelling to Rotterdam in July 2024 for the upcoming championship. Shweta Brahmachari has also won various medals and championships and has been recently won the Bronze medal in the National Games Goa 2023. Mayurakshi Mukherjee is a National and International medalist.
Many of our rowers namely Arman, Devanshh and Sanskar who enrolled during School regatta are today a part of the Khelo India Programme. The trio who trains in Lake Club are gaining annual financial assistance from Khelo India.
